When summer descends upon Serfaus, that almost intangible transformation begins which occurs only high up in the mountains. The contours of the landscape soften, the shadows slowly retreat across the slopes, and even the view becomes more serene. It is the golden hour, when paths are no longer merely routes, but transitions – from day to evening, from the outside to the inside. Streets filled with sound, nights filled with play
From 2 July to 27 August, Serfaus is transformed into a vibrant summer stage during the Long Night. Street musicians weave a tapestry of sound through the narrow streets, while jugglers and acrobats playfully defy the gravity of everyday life and magicians leave visitors spellbound for a few seconds. Amidst the market stalls, the air is filled with the scent of Kiachln, regional specialities and summery lightness, whilst a glass of wine in hand rounds off the evening. Everything feels both lively and unhurried – as if the village had learnt to dance and breathe at the same time.
Paths of Light – Walks at Golden Hour
The summer feels particularly intense as you walk out of the village. The Lovers’ Trail begins gently at Apart Moos and winds through flowering meadows that shimmer almost silver in the evening light. The view opens up time and again onto the Inn Valley, where the horizon appears vast and serene. At the viewing pavilion, you’re invited to pause – not as a break, but as part of the trail itself. Numerous benches make the walk a succession of little moments of arrival, before the path takes you past the football pitch back to Serfaus.
Even more mysterious is the Enchanted Path, an atmospheric circular walk through the forest. Amidst tree stumps, carved ghostly faces and mystical figures, reality almost dissolves. The path is suitable for pushchairs yet brimming with fantasy – a quiet fairy tale of wood, moss and light, which is particularly enchanting at dusk. Here, the forest itself becomes the storyteller, and every step feels like a sentence in an old tale that no one knows in full.
The sound of the villages, drifting into the evening
The surrounding villages also help to keep the summer spirit alive. In Ladis, the historic centre is transformed into a lively setting of music, socialising and fine dining during the Village Festival (5 July–16 August). Amidst the fresco-painted houses, evenings take on a deliberately relaxed pace, accompanied by live bands such as the Zillertaler Edelweiss Trio or the ‘frechen Engeln’. Whilst children play on the bouncy castle and take part in the programme, a rare sense of community emerges, connecting generations.
Even more carefree, almost weightless, summer reveals itself at the Summer Chill Out in Fiss (13 July–7 September). Jazz, blues and acoustic sounds accompany the last rays of sunshine, often merely as a soft background hum during a stroll. The music becomes part of the landscape as your gaze sweeps over the mountains and the sky slowly turns a deep evening blue. This is where summer finds its second half: not loud, but solemn; not fast, but expansive.
When the mountains are bathed in gold and the evening seems to go on forever, your time at Hotel Universo begins.
